SGA Québec 2017, August 20 to 23 2017: Let's show the world what we can do!

By IOS team, August 09, 2017

The biennial SGA convention, the greatest metallogenist gathering, will be held in Québec City this year, from August 20th to 23th. Faithful to its culture of sharing knowhow, IOS will show the world its latest capabilities, technological breakthroughs and innovating exploration approaches.

IOS is the proud co-sponsor of the session S09, "Geometallurgy: Risk reduction through communication, optimization and innovation" (Sunday afternoon and Monday morning), in collaboration with COREM. A talk on gold deportment in mills will be offered by R. Girard and metallurgists from Agnico-Eagle, where a disruptive technology of measuring gold grain distributions in mills and concentrator, will be disclosed (Sunday, August 20, 3:20 pm, room 301AB). Furthermore, a series of posters will be offered within the same session in room 200BC:

• Réjean Girard and Alexandre Néron: ARTMin: Mineral classification based on fully deconvoluted EDS spectrums acquired by automated SEM.
• Jean-Philippe Arguin: The spatial variation of the mineralogy in the vanadiferous magnetite deposit of the lac Doré Complex.
• Ludivine Mathieu: Work index determination using grinding curves obtained through parametric comminution with a conventional shatterbox.

Posters are also displayed in sessions S08 (From fertility to footprints: New vectoring tools for mineral exploration) and SY04 (Critical and precious metal deposits: theory, experiment and nature - a symposium to recognize the work of A.E. Williams-Jones). Posters are in room 200BC:

• Alexandre Néron: Automated gold grain counting: a quantum leap in drifts exploration.
• Jonathan Tremblay: Halite at the Saint-Honoré carbonatite: an insight into a magmatohydrothermal process.

IOS is also proudly sponsoring the session S11 on "Resources development and perception/acceptability: The role of geosciences". Sylvie Paquette, our "Éco-conseillère" will be there to share her vast experience and sounded advices.

Intrigued by artificial intelligence? Mr Clement Dombrowski will offer demos on mineral potential prediction using the HyperCube platform, known as the most powerful predictive software on the market.

Finally, get in touch with the latest techniques in micro-analysis. Joint the 50' attendees and speakers in the short course on ‘' Recent advances in micro-analytical techniques applied to ore deposits''. Held on Thursday and Friday, August 23rd and 24th, this post-convention short-course still welcomes registrations. The section on automated SEM-based mineralogy will be offered by R. Girard. http://sga2017.ca/sc08/.

Come and meet us at booth # 1, the world is invited!
